Random paragraph generator
Generate random paragraphs of readable English for mockups, typing practice, and writing prompts.
Paragraphs are put together at random from original sentence patterns. They read like real English, but they aren't meant to tell a meaningful story.
Random paragraphs in a few taps
Set “Amount” to any number from 1 to 20 and the random paragraph generator writes that many paragraphs of English text, 3 if you leave the default. “Copy” puts all of them on your clipboard, and “Download TXT” saves them as a text file. Tap “Generate again” and you get a new set with the same settings.
Each batch is fresh text, so you can keep generating until you have a set that fits the space you're testing.
Short, medium, or long paragraphs
“Length” decides how many sentences go into each paragraph. Switching lengths is useful when you test a layout: generate a Short batch to see how a card looks with a little text, then a Long batch to find where it overflows or needs a “Read more” link.
- Short: 3 to 4 sentences, good for cards, captions, and product tiles
- Medium: 5 to 6 sentences, close to a typical paragraph in an article
- Long: 7 to 9 sentences, for testing dense blocks of text
Wrap paragraphs in HTML tags
Turn on “Wrap in <p> tags” and each paragraph comes wrapped in an opening <p> and a closing </p>. Paste the result straight into an HTML file, a CMS code view, or a component, and the paragraphs keep their breaks without any editing. Leave the option off when you're pasting into a word processor, a design tool, or a plain text field.
Readable sentences instead of Latin filler
Every sentence is built from original sentence patterns written for this tool, so the text reads as plain English. Inside one paragraph, no sentence repeats. That's the main difference from the lorem ipsum generator, which fills space with Latin-looking words nobody reads. Real-looking sentences show you how a layout behaves with actual words, line lengths, and punctuation, and test users don't stop to ask why the copy is in Latin.
The trade-off is meaning. Sentences are combined at random, so a paragraph won't follow a plot or make an argument. If you need a single line instead of a block, the random sentence generator gives you sentences one at a time.
Uses for random paragraphs
Random paragraphs work anywhere you need text that looks like real copy but doesn't have to say anything specific:
- Mockups and UX tests: fill pages, cards, and modals with copy that people will actually read
- Text layouts: check line height, column width, and how long blocks wrap on a phone
- Typing practice: type out a long paragraph and compare your version with the original
- Handwriting practice: copy a short paragraph neatly onto paper
- Writing prompts: take one odd sentence from the batch and write a story that starts there
Frequently asked questions
Is this the same as lorem ipsum?
No. Lorem ipsum is Latin-looking filler, while these paragraphs are made of readable English sentences built from original patterns. Use them when you want a mockup to read like real copy. For classic Latin placeholder text, Typedly has a separate lorem ipsum generator.
How many sentences are in each paragraph?
It depends on “Length”. Short paragraphs have 3 to 4 sentences, Medium ones 5 to 6, and Long ones 7 to 9. You can generate from 1 to 20 paragraphs at a time, and the default is 3.
How do I get paragraphs with HTML tags?
Turn on the option that wraps paragraphs in HTML tags before you copy or download. Each paragraph then starts with an opening p tag and ends with a closing one, ready to paste into HTML or a CMS code view.
Why don't the paragraphs make sense?
The sentences are combined at random, so each one is readable on its own but the paragraph doesn't follow a story or an argument. That's on purpose: the text is there to fill space and look real, not to carry a message.
Can I generate random paragraphs in Spanish?
Yes, on the Spanish version of this page, which builds paragraphs from its own Spanish sentence patterns. This page only writes English. Switch versions from the Languages menu on the page.
