Where to use a Lenny face

Drop one into a chat, a comment or a Discord message when you want a sly, knowing reaction. It’s plain text, so it pastes like any other message, and it can go in a nickname if the app accepts those characters.

Eyes, mouths and hands

The builder mixes several eye styles and mouths, and the raised hands are optional. Change one part at a time to see the difference, or select “Surprise me” for a random popular face.

Where the Lenny face came from

The classic Lenny face, ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°), is typed, not drawn: every piece is a Unicode character rather than an emoji image. It spread as an internet meme around 2012, and you’ll still see it called le Lenny face.

Its parts come from all over Unicode. The degree sign ° makes the eyes, ʖ is a phonetic letter doing the nose and mouth, and two kinds of floating marks add the raised brows and the smirk. Together they read as a knowing, mischievous look.

Mix the parts to change the mood

Every face in this Lenny face generator follows one pattern: parentheses for the head, an eye on each side and a mouth in the middle. Switch on Add raised hands and ლ, a letter from the Georgian alphabet, shows up on both sides as a pair of hands.

The eyes carry most of the attitude, so try those first and leave the mouth for last.

  • ಠ / ಠ: the disapproving stare
  • ⌐■ / ⌐■: sunglasses, for acting too cool
  • ¬ / ¬: a tired side-eye
  • ᵔ / ᵔ: soft and happy
  • Mouths: ω and ᴥ look cute, Д and 益 shout or fume, ‿ and ▽ smile

Popular variants and when to use them

None of these are rules. The classic eyes with the bear mouth, ( ͡° ᴥ ͡°), already read sillier than the original smirk.

  • ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°): the original, for playing along with a joke
  • ლ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)ლ: the same smirk with hands up, for extra drama
  • ( ͡~ ͜ʖ ͡°): a wink, for teasing a friend
  • ( ಠ ͜ʖ ಠ): suspicious, as in “I saw that”
  • ( ⌐■ ‿ ⌐■): too cool to care
  • ( ° Д ʘ): shocked by the plot twist

Copy and paste it without breaking it

Most Lenny face copy and paste problems come from those floating marks, which depend on the spaces inside the face. Use the Copy button instead of selecting by hand, so no space gets left behind.

Only the ͡° and ͡~ eyes and the ͜ʖ mouth use those marks. If a font or a name field keeps scrambling the face, switch to eyes like ಠ or ᵔ and a mouth like ω: they’re plain characters and hold their shape better.

  • Paste it into a draft or a message to yourself before you post
  • Some name fields block unusual characters, so check before you save
  • Clear takes you back to the classic face if you get lost

Frequently asked questions

Why can a Lenny face look different after I paste it?

Lenny faces use Unicode characters and spacing. Fonts and apps can render or wrap them differently.

How do I make my own Lenny face?

Pick the eyes and the mouth, and turn on raised hands if you want ლ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)ლ. The preview updates as you go; select Copy when you like it.

Can I start from a popular one?

Yes. Tap any face under “Popular Lenny faces” to load it into the builder, then change it or copy it.

What is a Lenny face?

A text face made from Unicode characters, best known as ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°). People use it in chats and comments as a sly or playful reaction.

Why do the eyes or mouth look out of place?

The curve in ͜ʖ and the brows in ͡° are combining marks: each sits on the space before it and stretches over the next character. Fonts place them differently, so they can drift. If it looks off, try other eyes or another mouth.
