Case converter

Paste your text and switch it to lowercase, UPPERCASE, Sentence case, and more without retyping a word.

Sentence case lowercases everything and capitalizes only sentence starts, so check names, acronyms, and the word “I” before you use the result. It all runs in your browser: your text is never uploaded.

Example input and result

Hello TYPEDLY. A new sentence.

Result

hello typedly. a new sentence.

Six case modes and what each one does

Pick a mode in “Mode” and the result updates as soon as you type or paste. Every mode converts the whole text at once, line breaks and punctuation included, and keeps accented letters intact. With the input “hello WORLD. how are you?”, each mode gives you this result:

  • lowercase: hello world. how are you?
  • UPPERCASE: HELLO WORLD. HOW ARE YOU?
  • Sentence case: Hello world. How are you?
  • Capitalize Each Word: Hello World. How Are You?
  • aLtErNaTiNg: hElLo WoRlD. hOw ArE yOu?
  • iNVERSE: HELLO world. HOW ARE YOU?

Convert uppercase to lowercase without retyping

Text typed with caps lock on or copied from a document written in capitals is the classic job for a case converter. Paste it, choose “Sentence case”, and “THE EXAM IS TOMORROW. DON'T FORGET TO STUDY.” turns into “The exam is tomorrow. Don't forget to study.” in one step, with no retyping and no missed letters.

When the result looks right, “Copy result” puts it on your clipboard and “Download TXT” saves it as a text file. “Load example” fills the box with a short sample so you can compare modes, and “Clear” empties both boxes. The box takes up to 500,000 characters, so a whole essay or a long list converts in one go.

What Sentence case can't guess

Sentence case first lowercases everything, then capitalizes the first letter of the text and the first letter after each period, question mark, or exclamation mark. It has no list of names, so “I moved to Denver with my friend Ana” comes out as “I moved to denver with my friend ana”. Fix those words by hand after converting, or watch for these cases:

  • The pronoun I: “yes, I know” becomes “Yes, i know”
  • Acronyms and brands: NASA becomes nasa and iPhone becomes iphone
  • Line breaks: a new line starts with a capital only if the line before it ends in a period, ? or !
  • Numbered lists: “1. buy milk” becomes “1. Buy milk”, because the period after the number looks like the end of a sentence

Accents, alternating text, and inverse case

Every mode keeps accents and special letters, so “café” in UPPERCASE is “CAFÉ” and the German ß becomes SS. “Capitalize Each Word” capitalizes every word, small ones included, which turns “the lord of the rings” into “The Lord Of The Rings”. For headline rules that keep words like “of” and “the” lowercase, use the title case converter.

aLtErNaTiNg flips between lowercase and uppercase on every letter, starting lowercase, and skips spaces and punctuation so the pattern doesn't break between words. It's the look people use to mock a quote in memes. iNVERSE swaps the case of each letter, which rescues a sentence typed with caps lock on by accident: “hELLO wORLD” comes back as “Hello World”.

Frequently asked questions

How do I convert uppercase to lowercase?

Paste your text, choose “lowercase” in “Mode”, and copy the result. If you want capitals back at the start of each sentence, choose “Sentence case” instead, then check names and acronyms, because the converter lowercases those too.

Why did Sentence case lowercase my names?

The converter doesn't know which words are names. It lowercases the whole text and then capitalizes the first letter of each sentence, so names, places, acronyms, and the pronoun I need a quick fix by hand afterward.

What is alternating case for?

aLtErNaTiNg case is a joke format: people use it in memes and chats to repeat something in a mocking tone. The converter starts each text in lowercase and alternates on letters only, so spaces and punctuation don't break the pattern.

Does it work with accented letters?

Yes. Accented letters keep their marks in every mode, so “résumé” becomes “RÉSUMÉ” and “ñ” becomes “Ñ”. The German ß becomes SS in UPPERCASE. Lowercase and the other modes handle accented capitals the same way, so “ÉCLAIR” goes back to “éclair”.

Can I convert a long document?

Yes. The box takes up to 500,000 characters, so a full essay or several pages of notes convert at once. The result updates as you type or change the mode, and “Download TXT” saves it as a text file you can open anywhere.
